June 19 – Soccer is Still On

According the weather radar the thunderstorm and rain are going to clear by about 6 pm. This means tonight’s soccer can go ahead as planned. Coaches and parents are asked to follow the 30 minute rule when it comes to lightning. No one is to be on the field within 30 minutes of the last lighting strike.

The grass might be a bit wet but I’m sure the kids will love it!

Pictures & Heat

This is a reminder that pictures are on this week. With the heat today the temperature is right on the 33 degree cutoff to play. We would encourage everyone to show up for pictures. Coaches and parents can judge how long to play. Encourage lots of water breaks and feel free to end early if the kids are not having fun.

We will re-evaluate the weather policy to improve the timing of communication.

Coaches – Police Check Night

Just following up on the information we discussed in regards to the Police Check Night.

The Police Vulnerable Sector Check Night will take place on Thursday May 18th from 5:30 PM to 8:30PM at the Petrolia OPP Detachment on Oil Heritage Road. We are requiring all coaches and assistant coaches to obtain a check this year to show we are doing our due diligence in regards to checking on all persons who will be coming in contact with children during the season.

On this evening you will be provided an organization letter which explains that you need a Police Vulnerable Sector Check and what it is for. You will also need to complete a description of the specific role you will volunteering for.

For those of you who have never had a check done before you will be required to present 2 original forms of identification. At least one needs to have a photo. Please see the acceptable forms of photo id below as well as acceptable forms of non-photo id:.

Acceptable forms of photo identification:

  • Driver’s Licence
  • BYID – Bring Your Identification, issued by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO)
  • Military Employment Card
  • Canadian Citizenship Card
  • Indian Status Card
  • Passport
  • Permanent Resident Card
  • PAL (Possession & Acquisition Licence issued by the Chief Firearms Office)
  • CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) Card
  • Ontario Photo ID Card (issued by the MTO)
  • NEXUS Card
  • FAST Pass
  • Photo Student Card (for aged 15 and under only)
  • Acceptable forms of non-photo identification:

When these types of clinics are set up it usually only takes 15 – 20 mins to have the check completed. The organization will receive your PVSC that night. If you are unable to make it to the clinic this evening you are welcome to go and get a check done at any time. Please contact the Jason McKichan to obtain an organization letter if you have not received one yet.

Any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
